“We don’t have enough space in our house” is a phrase you might have encountered from your friends or families and even to yourself at some point. Sometimes, we often overlook that we actually do have the space we need, it’s just a matter of visually seeing it or “feeling” it whenever you walk around your room. Before you say “but hey you don’t understand my condo is only 550 sq ft.” We understand that but hear us out! Going back to our previous statement, it is how you “see” your room and “feel” it whenever you are in that room which will be the most important thing to note. Have guests over? It is the same thing when they walk in. They might be surprised even if you tell them your place is only 500-700 sq ft of space only. How do we get here? It’s applying these 6 simple ways to make your room not only organized but look bigger. Ready? Let’s check it out.
- Declutter

Declutter declutter declutter. No wonder our parents have always told us to declutter or clean/organize our room growing up! This simple step of removing any small items on desks, tables or counters and organizing (or piling) them into vertical order will make your room look bigger. Lining or stacking things vertically helps a lot in giving your room more space. We always place magazines, dog/childrens’ toys, and other small articles in a functional basket or a underbed storage to store them away. Having a dedicated storage for this helps a lot when you just need a quick fix to organize and bring more space in your rooms or when guests are over.
- Clear the way

Similar to decluttering, clearing the hallway, walkways in your rooms instantly opens up your room. If you have lamps, or chairs, place them at the corners of your room. The goal here is when you are on the other end of the room say, you could clearly see the other end of the room or other parts of your home without any blockage on your vision. Unnecessary items could be placed in the storage room such as baskets, shoes, small appliances, and wires to clear the way.
- Shorter or slim furniture

When going for a bigger look for your rooms, use shorter and or slim furniture. This allows your ceilings to look higher than they are and remove blockage on vision. It also helps a lot when you have furniture such as chairs and tables that shows its wooden legs as when light could pass through it visually making space look bigger. Good rule of thumb is more light, bigger rooms!
- Pick soft and light palette

Going in line with our rule of thumb above, picking a light or soft color theme in your room brightens your rooms thus tricking your brain to make it look spacious. Moreover, light and soft palettes make a comforting and light feeling every time you are in that room.
- Curtain up/out

Are you noticing now our bias on providing more light in your room? Simply putting your curtains up (or out sometimes!) and providing natural light from the sun brightens and automatically makes your room look bigger. It’s natural, comforting (our dog and cat loves sitting on sun spots in the room) and brightens your mood too. Try it!
- Add mirrors

Adding mirrors could be tricky but it’s simple. Place mirrors near windows and not too close with paintings or any mounted frames. If you have bigger mirrors that are square or rectangular in shape, better! Mirror amplifies natural and artificial light and gives more depth in the room because of its reflections.
